I recently purchased a beautiful 1957 . It does however leak oil out the upper seal of the gear case. I am not able to figure out the part number for the upper seal. The original parts book that came with the motor lists the upper seal as part number 41-62. Can someone cross that number to a good number? Also any suggestions for replacing these seals would be appreciated. I plan on replacing the impeller, and possibly impeller housing, the water tube grommet, O rings, etc. Thanks for the help.

41-62 (004162) was replaced many moons ago by 307563, which has since been replaced by 321788 (or Sierra 18-2032)

It will be easier and cheaper to buy a seal kit. You can get them for 25 bucks or so. RnR_SRB.jpgService_Bulletin_M-193.jpgService_Bullitin_197_Gearcase_Leak_Prevention_5.jpgService_Bullitin_197_Gearcase_Leak_Prevention_5b.jpg

Laings part #SK1 $34.95 full seal kit. Scroll to bottom of this page Laing's Outboards | New Parts | Johnson Evinrude Parts
You can get water pump kit/impeller, coils, condensers, points, etc from Laings or Iboats. I looked and Iboats doesn't seem to have the lower unit seal kit for your motor. I've bought quite a few parts from Laings, never a problem. marineengine.com is another good source.

Thanks everyone for the quick reply. I was going to ask about a seal kit, but it slipped my mind. This motor is very nice original condition, and runs like new, except for leaking lower unit out the top seal.

jb93, I looked at Marineengine, but they did not list a 1957 10hp, and there seems to be a difference between the 57 and 58 in the pump-driveshaft area.

Again thanks for the quick response.

True,, the 1958-up gearcase was very different than the 1957 and prior.

We will need to know your serial number to determine the seal kit needed. The late run '57s use the same prop shaft seal as the '58s. That is the only difference in the kits, the rest is the same.
