the wire clip that i mentioned isnt in the original exploded view of the carb, but would have came with your new carb kit, and it is important to install it. ( small thin wire , loosely connects the float to the float needle)

If you bought a new OMC or Sierra carb rebuild kit, it's in there. It's very, very tiny and thin. Look closely in the packaging to see if you can find it. Your carb really won't be able to function without it. It holds the float needle in place and connects the float to the needle itself. Scroll down a little past the half way point in the following link there's a great pic of the spring on the needle and the float.

that corrosion you memtioned is called crevise corrosion. its not the screws it is the aluninum. it can get bad enough that the pressure between them ca break the aluninum part. if left alone it will eventually do just that. yes a little heat and a lot of care will get them out.

Ok so I was just about to start working to open the gear case and found one of the screw heads has come off. But the other half of the screw is still in there. So now that I am in deeper trouble is there any thing I can do to remove it.

Are you referring to the skeg halves?

If you're referring to the screws that holds the skeg in place, just remove the rest of them and then grab the screw with pliers or vice-grips to back it out. I've had several of those screws shear the heads off over the years - not sure why. Replace it with an SST screw of similar style.
