You'd be sick if you only knew how much i have invested so far. By the way, I also have a 1970 6 hp Evinrude and a 1975 Evinrude 9.9. The 9.9 was my first and most expensive at 295.00 if that gives you any idea of my investment to date. O.k. guys, here is the long sordid story. Don't hate me...This summer I was driving down the street and spotted an early 80's Starcraft 14 footer with a sign that read ''400 or best offer'', My wife called for me and asked what would be an acceptible amount and his wife said that they would take 300 without lifejackets, anchors...you get the idea. Well anyway I gave the feller 3 100 dollar bills, and drove off, without my boat (ball was wrong size, guy didn't have tools) Went back like three days later with the ball and stuff attatched to the truck. when I got there I asked the guy about the stuff he took out and he said, alright, give me 50 bucks, so I did and got 3 anchors , bow and stearn lights , 100 or so feet of line, 4 life jackets and the cushion.(The guy got to feeling guilty), Everything but the power plant.he said he had a 3 horse he pretty much just wanted gone but I declined...It's an Elgin ( I didn't yet have this disease I now have, going back tomorrow to see if he still has the "old motor" ). So I went on the local 100.00-dollar-a-year-budget radio station's Saturday broadcast of Tradio (T.M.) And found a 1975 9.9,"Runs good" 10 miles from my front door for 295.00 That came with 2 tanks and a set of muffs. If your still awake and still following me, we are up to a grand total of $645.00 American. Well, this is when the illness started to set in, the 9.9. runs good, but lacks the power I crave. I was whining to my best buddy about this and off the cuff I asked him about his deceased grandpa's motors(I knew he had atleast one old Evinrude). he said, "nah, grandpa sold him to his brother for a hundred bucks before he died". About a week later, the phone rang. It was the buddy. he said, "are you still looking for a bigger motor?" I said, "yep." He said "well,grandma said you can have them for what my uncle paid, a hundred bucks, and she'll hold them for you if your sure you want them. there are 2 , and I think they are both 25's, one runs and the other don't." I said tell her I'll be down tomorrow". When I showed up, she said they're in the shed,your gonna take 'em both aren't ya? I said yep., and went to the shed. When I got there, 2 black Evirudes 35 hp's. were hanging on a stand . I wasn't going to back out because they were 10 hp. to big, so my son and I loaded them up and brought them home. As soon as I got them here and did the normal inspection, I got online to find out what I now owned. I typed in the serial number,(thats how i got messed up with you bunch of inablers), and found out that I was now the proud owner of 2 1957 Evinrude Larks. One running, one for parts. One long shaft, one short, Both totally intact. I thought that they were too beautiful to let get all shabby, so I did the research and restored the running one and rebuit my transom to accommodate the extra weight. Now I'm really sick with the "old iron flu", so I posted an ad on Craigslist stating that I would haul free of charge any unwanted outboards that were in the way, any year or condition... preferably old. The first night the ad ran, the gentleman with th '67 called and said " I have this '83 or so,( hahahaha ), 60 horse that runs perfect you can have free for the taking , and I'll throw in the stand if you'll come get it out of my garage for me. I junked the '59 Thompson it came on (as you can guess, I really want to hate him for junking a 1959 Thompson, but he DID just give me a motor and stand free of charge) and sold the controls, Didn't know what I was gonna do with that old motor, It runs out perfect though." Guess what.... ,The next afternoon I made a trip to Davenport and loaded up my free engine that I had no idea what I was going to do with, thought I might rob the starter for the Lark. After a little contemplation, I was back on Craigslist , "fishing" to see what I might get in trade. The ad wasn't up for an hour when a guy e-mailed and said " i'm very interested in the motor, have a few things I might trade, like 50 horse Evinrude that runs great... (Are you still with me? an 80's model 50 for a '67 60, ? kind of boggled my mind for a second) also have a snowplow for a riding mower"...I declined, gave a list of stuff I would like to have, and said ",what I would really like is an 18, 20, or 25 Tiller handle outboard, any year". Swiftly got a reply back saying "well, I got this old v-bow on a trailer with a 1953 Wizard 6 horse that runs good that my dad can't start anymore do to his arthritis, I suppose I could throw in all 3 If thats what it takes to get that motor. I have 2 fiberglass boats, the 50 is on one(now i get it!) the other needs a motor, I want it before Christmas for Dad." I typed back "you have a deal, can you deliver it?" After some more deliberation (I'm sure you have no interest in), my new boat, motor, trailer combo will be delivered on Monday... Sum total, $695.00, American.
