I've never seen one that bad either. I've seen the alum burned away from a blown head gasket but not cracked like that. Do you want OMC'S customer service phone #?? Just a joke.

I actually talked with the guy who sold me the lower unit that was bad to start with..he is going to give me his 40 hp Johnson as swap and sell out mine for parts.... The 40 is compatible with my other components. Some good news on a crappy day.

the whole part is the lower cowl section you removed to get at the bottom head bolts.

I see... Well, tomorrow I get an upgrade I think? to a 40hp Johnson (60 model or so I think) and put all my components back on it... We will see how that fires up on the 1st attempt? Thanks for the info as always!!

not sure if the 40 is an upgrade or not! the 57 bigtwin is a much nicer looking motor. jmo ( id still keep it and look for a powerhead!)

ok, so I got a Evinrude 25532 ? I believe its a 1957 35hp Lark? Anyway, need help. This sucker would not even budge on crank. After soaking a night and playing hit sledgehammer on 2x4 on crank wheel it now moves freely. So, I hooked it up to battery and gave it a whirl. It cranks and spins, BUT without spark Plugs... When I put spark plugs in it wont crank and spin? What gives???

you did what with a 2x4 and sledge hammer???

as far as the cranking problem goes, id look into weak battery, loose or corroded connections, or frayed wires. you can usually narrow them down by feeling for hot spots at the connections and through out the harness.

It cannot overcome the compression. Weak battery, corrroded cables, dirty/loose connections are where I would start.
