1957 35hp Johnson , Quits running.

Motor quits running . ( Has fuel pump) Fuel line bulb is collapsed , disconnect from fuel tank ,pump bulb up and it will run some then quit again (tank is vented) . Noticed water leaking down from power head , made it back to boat ramp , at home put motor in barrel and after running a while it would quit , bulb is collapsed , pump it back up and it will run a while BUT with the cover off can't see any water leaking . I'm thinking that the fuel pump is not working and it has something to do with that leaking water . Going to put boat back in water and run it until water starts leaking (tomorrow) . Any inputs? Appreciate any suggestions.

if the fuel pump can suck enough to collapse the bulb the it must be working ok imho

have you checked the fuel pick-up in the tank or changed hose ? . some hoses have a plastic like lining which gets to deteriorate over time.

as to water ...find the leak but likely not related to the fuel issue

Run with loosened or removed gas cap -- sounds like a vent issue.

Changed out fuel line and also fuel tank , had issues with the tank can't take apart (Attwood?) new tank can be disassembled . Started up it ran find , so that problem is fixed . Still haven't found where water problem as it doesn't appear in the barrel will have to wait until I can get boat in water and check it under load. I did try running old gas tank with cap off but that didn't work .
