I took my 1957 18 hp fastwin out today for the first time. I am unable to run this at full throttle. It felt like something was jammed. So I took the engine cowl off to check to see what was hitting. I noticed the bracket to keep you from revving it in neutral was just barley hitting some throttle plate and holding it back. After about a hour of frustration I just took the braket off. For now I am very careful about reving it in neutral, but still it hits the flywheel braket now and still will not let me "open her up". I can see it is obviously hitting the bracket and holding it back.
So is there a chance that when the previous owners changed the points, condensers, ect. they didn't put this back together right? I know its hard to diagnose with no pics but just wondering if anyone has had the same problem. This motor runs great and really want to see what she can do. Also it looks like it leaves alot of oil/gas on the water. Don't know if this is a problem either. You guys on this forum are my heros! Thanks for all the great info
If you need pics I will be down at the Marina tomorrow
