I have a 1957 evinrude 30hp and it looks like the kill switch wiring is missing. I have one wire coming down from under the flywheel going straight to the center of the cut out switch. On all my previous outboard it was three wires. So that had me wondering how to shut the thing down once its running. I know its a very simple set up but I've never had to mess with the cutoff or killswitch.

I don't think those old engines actually had a kill switch, you just shut the throttle down and the engine shuts down.

That's right. You can easily add a kill switch by running an individual wire to each set of points and then connecting each wire to the "M" terminal on one of these push button lanyard kill switches. They cost about $10 on amazon.com and install in about 20 min. You may have to drill a hole in the lower cowl pan, but that should be the only modification you need to make. Here are some pics and links regarding the switch and motor. Btw I think you may have a 35 hp motor. I don't think they made a 30 hp in '57.

Well, for one, there wasn't a 30 hp built in 1957. It is a 1956. And for two, factory kill switches were not installed until 1958. Did someone install a kill switch?
