Re: 1957 evinrude big twin

1. Spark Plug: Champion J6C gapped at .030"
2. No valves to worry about - it's a two-stroke.
3. Points are available through a Johnrude dealer, part #580148 or NAPA, part #18-5156, gapped at .020"
4. 32:1 mix using good quality TCW-3 rated oil and good quality gas (I prefer 89 - more consistent quality).
5. High & low speed needles - close them (gently) and then re-open them: Bottom 1 full turn, top 1 1/2 turns. Start motor and allow to warm up. With motor under load, wide open throttle, turn high speed needle (bottom one) clockwise, motor will pick up revs and then fall off. Back out 1/4 turn from that point. Do the same with the low speed, in gear, turning inwards until motor sneezes, then back it out 1/8 turn from that point.
6. Timing is automatically set when you set the point gap at the high point of the point cam.
- Scott
