1957 Evinrude BigTwin 35 gears

I have engine model number 25028. I am trying to find out what the part numbers are for the forward and reverse gears. They are part of a set with part number 376996. I have the parts list for this motor but I want to know the individual part numbers if anyone can help.

I know this buddy. I'm wondering if they have individual part numbers say if you only wanted a forward gear, so you don't have to buy the set......

nope, sorry Bud -- it's what matched means. Using the original parts manual (guess you are too). Good luck with it.

Whats wrong with the forward gear? If it the contact area for the clutch dog, the forward and reverse gears can be swapped. But the bushings in the gears need to be swapped too.

If you look at the parts list for other models (for instance 1959) you will see that the gears are listed separately. And yes we did do that back in the day. But that was way back then, and I don't know for certain which years can be used without having them in hand for comparison. My memory is good, but not that good.

Thank everyone and F_R, I wish I could jog your memory. I'm just trying to have parts in case. I just want to buy new forward and reverse gears. I can't seem to find any on eBay right now where I can usually save some money. I have a new clutch dog. Just wish I new individual part numbers.......

Within the gearset of 376996, lies the forward gear 375759, reverse gear 302517, and pinion gear 308692. This is mainly for the 1957 Johnson and Evinrude lineup.

The earlier 25/30 for both Johnson and Evinrude had a similar gearset of 375861, the only difference is the pinion gear differed. Forward and reverse gears in the set are the same.

Then in 1958, the gearset changed to 378726. They had the same pinion as the 1957s, yet the forward and reverse gears differ.

That being said, the whole gearset could still be used together in your '57.

There you go, e. Both info. and a seller. Buy a set (maybe inspected set from the same donor motor, if available). NOS the best choice -- might be better than what you are currently running.
