I have a 1957 Evinrude Fleetwin and I am having a hard time getting it to start. I keep pulling and pulling and I cant even get it to sputter. I checked the spark plugs for spark and they are sparking fine. I have champion CJ6 sparkplugs in it now. I also checked and I have fuel in the bowl of the carb,so I must be getting fuel. Does anybody have any advice?

1. Check compression
2. Clean/rebuild carb

1. Check Compression
2. Don't do anything else till you check the ignition. It has cracked coils unless somebody has already replaced them. Sparking plugs doesn't mean a thing. Scout's Honor.

Fuel in the carb bowl does NOT mean the engine is getting fuel. It only means fuel is filling the carb bowl. Jets and orifices can be plugged up, preventing the fuel from getting beyond the bowl...

As noted above, check ignition components first. Easy to check them visually by removing the access port cover on the top of the flywheel, under the rewind assembly.
