Just about everything is still available for that motor, I see good powerheads on ebay all the time...might want to check there.

If you're talking new, I doubt it is available but someone else will let you know. But usually when a rod goes there is other internal damage. Have you opened it to verify that there is no other damage?

The 277401 connecting rod is listed as no longer available. Try www.sea-way.com

I have not split it open yet but I pulled out the piston with the broken conn rod and I can see that the crank journal looks galled up.The piston got nicked up a little on the bottom of the skirt. Can I clean the crank and piston up with emery cloth and put on a new rod?I've done this before with Briggs motors and it worked for me.Also, will a 1954 powerhead fit in a 1957 housing?I see one on Ebay.Thanks.

I'll bet the wrist pin bushing is completely gone. Besides the other huge problems you already mentioned.
Do yourself a favor and get a used powerhead. The 7.5hp powerhead is one of the most common I always used to see on ebay. I don't believe the '54 will work, but I could be wrong. If you really want to give yourself a treat, place a free wanted ad on aomci.org and someone will take care of you----I suspect in just 2 or 3 days you will get a response from one of the members. They're good folks.
Good luck,
JBJ
