I have a 1957 Lark 35hp long shaft. I want to convert it to a short shaft and my problem is that I can't disconnect the water tube from the upper exhaust housing to shorten it. On the 1958's with two water tubes, it's an easy job to just pull them straight down, but this does not appear to be the case on the 1957. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It'll pull out - good chance the water tube is stuck in the rubber grommet it seats into in the mid-section. Some gentle twisting and maybe some WD-40 might help loosen it up...

You don't replace the water tube. You use a part number 304175 water tube extension. A #304174 o-ring goes inside the 304175.

The tube moves up and down about and inch, but something seems to keep it from moving any further. It doesn't feel like it is sliding in a rubber bushing - feels more like metal to metal. ???
