I am looking to replace my fuel pump. It seemed to be running fine but then all of a sudden
its started bogging down I squeezed the ball pump and it kicked back in so I assume it is a bad fuel pump
or diaphragm.
Motor is a 1957 Montgomery wards 12hp seaking gg-8971b
Could someone give me the part number I would need to order a replacement from iboats?
Also, I have been told that this motor is very similar to a 15hp evinrude of the same year and that my sea king just has a de tuned carb? I was wondering if this is true and if so would the evinrude carb turn my 12hp into a 15hp?
Thanks in advance.

Well, they didnt make a 15hp in '57, so finding a '57 15hp Evinrude carb may prove to be difficult. Ill look up the part numbers for ya, but I dont think iboats will carry them. :) I would pull the diaphragms and remake them yourself, cant hurt. Go to your local bearing/oil seal supplier and get the material.

Been a while since Ive looked at a '57 12hp Sea King, let me go look through my motors and see if I have one. Simply swapping the carb will not give you the extra hp alone though.

As near as I can tell the 15 is bored 1/8" larger for a 19.94 cu in.
the 12 is 17.99. So a 15 carb isn't likely to add much if anything.
The sierra carb kits for the E/J 57-68 18, 55-56 15, 54-63 10 hp and 55-58 7.5 are the same.18-7043.needle and seat are
18-7094. I'm pretty sure these will work on the 12 carb Of course all their doesn't help the fuel pump issue.
I think the 57 E/J was on a pressure tank The Gales of course used a fuel pump.

Thanks for the replies,
I was just curious if what I heard was true or not about turning it into a 15hp and now I know :) Thank you
This is a gale and has a fuel pump not a pressurized tank. I heard that fuel pumps for these motors were common among a lot of different motors but that I would have to more than likely rerun my fuel lines because the fuel ports are in different locations. Is this true?
