Will someone please explain how to remove the cowl from a 1958 5.1/2 hp Evinrude model 5516. I know the one side swings up, then?

It's time to convert to single line and fuel pump. Thanks for your time and consideration in advance.

Swing rear up.-----Remove / loosen rubber strap if still equipped with that item.------Slide assembly forward to take it off.

Sorry on some Evinrude models you have to take out 2 screws on one side and screws on carburetor knobs to remove the cowling.----Haven not worked on one in a while.----And not going to run out to the shop to look at one right now.

the rear bracket is nice to mount a B&S pump on a triangular rack see the 7.5hp version

The question was removing the hood.
Remove the slow speed and high speed knobs and choke knob.
Remove lower spark plug
Put shifter in reverse.
Cross your eyes, grit your teeth, don't cuss, and you can finagle it off if you get it just right.

The spring held gear shift handle might pull straight out, and then swing out of the way -- but don't remember if the 5 1/2 had that feature. Saves scratching the hood.
