1958 Evinrude 18hp Fastwin electric start

May not detail tank or motor. I think this one will be a flip. It's too big for a "kicker" on the Crestliner next to the Fatty. After I sell this one, I'm going to look for a 10hp Johnny 1959. I actually have been looking for that motor for some time. Found a few, but no success in the sale as of yet. After restoring the 3hp 1961 johnny, I bought a 9.4' tender and sold the pair for 1100.00 I had about 360 bucks into the pair.

A foot pump with a gauge is a good idea, useful for pressure testing lower units -- possibly also for use in testing a pressure tank (above).

Well I put gas in the tank, hooked it up and gave it a shot. It ran, but just barely. Can somebody please tell me what will happen when the other two (not white) wires are touched together? The battery cables I know where they go, the white wires activated the starter solenoid. I am not sure what these other two smaller wire do. I assume they ground the stator so it dies, but not sure. I found two little black wires that came out from the bottom of the stator, but they are not attached at the ends to anything. I also assume that these are the original "kill" button wires. If I was to use a momentary switch for the starter, and another momentary switch for the kill switch, Would the battery be drained while it sits? Thanks for any help.

Not sure what the other two wires are - a picture of the wiring harness would help. The two black wires coming out the bottom of the magneto are the kill wires. You can hook them up to a momentary push button to kill the motor, and can also start the motor with the same type of push button switch. It won't drain the battery.

IMO, it runs pretty smoothly. (Rattle might be the recoil spring or one of the pawls.)
