1958 Evinrude motor

I have a 40 hr mercury that is locked up, so i bought a 1958 evinrude motor to replace it will the controls for the steering and throttle work on it or can they be modified?
thank you any suggests would be helpful

You didn't say what horsepower Evinrude we are talking about, but the steering may be used, again depending on what kind of steering we are talking about.

Controls are easy----NO.

sorry a 35 hrs the boat has a steering console

I assume you probably have a Teleflex steering system, or one of their competitors. There are adapter kits available to connect to that old Evinrude, but the motor really wasn't made for it. It will work, but not well.

this is the best steering adapter i have found. just turn the tube around for starboard steering.
