1958 Thompson Lapstrake

I'm getting interest in wooden boats lately i found a 1958 Thompson Lapstrake motor unknown. i was just curious if this was a common boat or a collector item and if this model is worth much completely restored to original.

That is what is so nice about a wooden boat.I have seen them sell for quite a bit restored.There will always be people interested in them,and from what I am hearing probably one of the only boats you can buy,put work into and use it and get maybe more to a lot more out of it when you sell it.If you have ever been to boat shows you will see right away the money these old things are worth.I own a skifcraft if you are looking for a good project it is for sale.As for your decision to buy one,it will be a good one.Just make sure you do not go over board,like with anything in life....

I would check the year closer as I recall all the 50's-60's Thompsons had wood framed windshields and don't ever recall seeing one from that area with an I/O.

When I was a kid (a whole lifetime ago) Thompson, Cruisers Inc, Lyman wood lapstrake hulls were very popular here in SE Wisconsin and NE Illinios. Always wanted a Cruisers Inc cuddy but now they are way out of my price range for a nice one.
