1959 Evinrude 5.5 alive again - water pump replacement?

After sitting for 8 or 10 years, I finally got her to fire up after cleaning the points, getting spark to both jugs. Ran fine in the start position, and revved up ok briefly. Water pump working, just wouldn't idle without dying. I did some carb cleaning without much disassembly, fired right back up today, tried to run at mid throttle position long enough to warm up good to see if it would idle after getting up to operating temperature. Was adjusting the rich & lean knobs, rich creating more smokey exhaust, when I noticed there was no longer water coming out of the back of the column. Shut it down before it had time to get hot.
I assume the 10+ year old impeller died. Is that a safe assumption?
Is it true I have to pull the PH off to replace the impeller?
If so, at least the carb will be much easier to work on.
Considering a nearly non-existent budget, what else do I have to replace while it is this far apart. (if all hard parts are in decent shape)
Thanks, Dave

Yes, you have to remove the powerhead, not a difficult job. In addition to the water pump parts, you will need a powerhead gasket. Also, any worn, defective, or missing carbon seal parts on the drive shaft---they are extremely important. At the least, replace the 303355 gasket and 303347 o-ring.

pulling the PH isn't as bad as it sounds ... been there just follow the video
carefull with the top of the drive shaft when removing the PH (small parts (carbon) o-ring etc,,. carbon seal is very brittle...
