1959 Evinrude 5.5hp 5518 prop install

Hi, I just acquired a 1959 Evinrude 5.5hp 5518, but I'm struggling to get the prop on. Should these just slip on or is force needed to get the prop seated?

It should just slide on.----File off the bulging around the shearpin hole.----See if that helps.

Sure you have the right prop ? Typically they slide on with ease if the shear pin is centered properly..and the shaft is greased.

Shear pin is installed after the prop goes on the shaft on this model.

? is it the prop that came with the engine or a replacement
? was it on the prop shaft when you acquired the engine ?

Buy old unkown parts. Have nice new problems. Been there.
Slide your BARE finger into the prop holes from each end. Feel if there is a VERT TINY bump at the edge of either small hole inside of the prop.
Cam you see very clearly thru each hole ? No old shear pin parts still in either hole ?

???----Is it even the original lower unit / parts ?----Or was it changed to the newer 6 HP from 1965 on.----Updates from OP are needed.
