So I was replacing the LU oil (which had a lot of water in it so now I'm going to get a seal kit to replace everything), but apparently I confused what I thought was the drain screw with the pivot pin. The worst part was the round hex bolt was stripped so I drilled it out and was very confused when it has an elongated shaft.
Anyway, I took it to a local marina and they said that it was the lower pivot pin and that it was never meant to be removed!!
The one guy said that I would have to take apart the entire engine to reassemble the shifting linkage... oh boy, way more than I bargained for... I called the nearest 'rude dealer and they said that as long as I didn't hear a pop that it should be ok, but that I should take it in to hvae them take a look... $$$
what do you think? How serious is this. Is there an easy way to tell if the linkage shifted at all? Thanks for the help...
