Don't remove the nose/bow support. Work around it to build storage or an anchor locker maybe. Some folks put their battery or fuel tank forward in the bow to balance the boat to make it plane easier. Looks like a nice resto project...keep the pix coming. Are you in Kansas...whereabouts? Used to live there years ago.

Not in Kansas, just a huge Jayhawk fan. I am actually in Idaho.

Ok, so I started the grinding process tonight. Quick question with pics below.

Just a wider shot to give you the area I am working on.

The ledge that is there is left over from the floor that I have been working on getting out. My assumption through reading a million threads and seeing pics is I would like to get this hull nice and clean (meaning no ledges) to get the stringers re glassed and get a new floor in nice and clean. So my question, am I doing this right? Do I worry about the areas I have circled in red in one of the pics? Or do I just re-resin those?

Am I going in the right direction with my thoughts here. End of grinding in my mind I have a nice smooth surface to work with around the entire hull....minus the stringers that are in good shape, right?

I would put a little poly resin on them myself before I sealed the new floor down but I dont think their a problem .

You will probably end up with resin there when you do the transom anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's when you see the gel coat color from the inside that you have problems and have to do some glassing like I did. :rolleyes:

Ok, been making some progress but with some business trips and family trips it's been a little slow. Finished ripping out the deck, and been doing a ton of grinding. Since this is an old boat there has been a lot put in here over time I believe. So above the deck line it is pretty dirty, but also pretty thin. I am a little nervous grinding and sanding down because you can see the fabric imprints below and I don't want to be messing with those I believe. So the question here is how much cleaning and sanding/grinding do I need to do on the areas above the deck. See pics below you can see where the deck was and I have grinded down.

In the 3rd and 4th picture you can see the fabric is right below the paint.

So I was thinking about this some more...since no one has replied yet. Is there maybe just a primer or something I could throw down on top of this old stuff? Obviously I would need to sand some but would priming it with something work or am I in for what I said above in my previous post? If primer, what would you do it with?

What end result are you trying to achieve? I don't see any purpose in a primer if the surface is in no condition to take paint in the first place :confused:

I haven't decided what I am going to put down as a floor yet, debating between a rhino lining type floor or a marine apoxy floor since I have ruled out carpet. I guess what I am trying to ask is what do I need to do to those walls to prepare it for what I decide in the end.

Rick, thanks for sharing those....gives me some inspiration!! Really like the red one, didn't think I would like it painted like that but it looks outstanding, but so does the wood.....decisions decisions.
