Hey guys. I was getting ready to put my lower unit back on after reversing my clutchdog and putting in new seals. I noticed on top of the water pump where the drive shaft comes up, there is a spongy looking seal(?) around the drive shaft. It's intact, but doesn't look too good. Is that something I must replace, or just not that important?

It won't run with the hood on if that seal isn't doing it's job. Part number 305762. Glue the new one to the cover plate with some stickum so it doesn't skush out.

PM, On the "fatty" Both the clutch dog and the forward and reverse gears are reversible. When the engagment part of the dog and the gears round off, the motor will bang in and out of gear. At that time, you can just switch them around, and not have to buy new parts.
