1959 Qd-20

A young lad at our lake bought a QD-20 (1959) and I helped him set points, high and low mixtures etc. Motor has new coils, condensers, point sets. He claims motor doesn't reach full power at WOT. I don't have manual of exploded parts view.

Did the QD20 have a rubber prop hub?
Does normal sync and link have cam mark directly behind roller or off to one side? I suspect centered on roller.

Before I accepted the theory that the motor isn't developing full power at WOT, I would want to go for a ride in it. The problem could be as simple as a motor with too much prop for the boat it is being used on.

Yes, or the problem could be the overpowered expectations of a young lad.

What sort of boat is the engine on? Have you listened to it run or seen the boat go at WOT?

I saw and heard it running. My first impression was running on one cylinder, high speed needle out of adjustment, sync-link, clogged high speed jet. This was a spur of the moment surprise thing. I didn't have tools or enough time to fully sort it out. I'll get compresson figures this weekend. The prop hub is a simple thing to check, and still need sync-link roller to cam alignment info. I suspect it's mark on roller center, that's why I asked. Lad said carb was rebuilt (previous owner) and it pumps good water, head temps are normal too.

So, Back to the original question:

The carb butterflies should be just ready to begin to open when the mark on the cam is centered on the roller.
