I re-built this motor some twenty years ago and it was running very strong when my father in-law passed, close to ten years now, we just put it aside. Now, I'm trying to bring it back to life and ran into a snag. There are dual mercury switches on the tiller gear. One for grounding the starter coil, the other for the high speed cut out circuit. The switch for the starter is not functioning (cut out switch is working fine).
1) are replacement switches available anywhere? if not, what is the consensus on bypassing?
2) if a new switch is available (I'm assuming an individual switch here) somewhere, how does one go about attaching it to the bracket? It appears the original was spot welded/staked in place/

Thanks for any help you can provide.

MarineEngine.com claims they have both OEM switches in-stock for Johnson/Evinrude which should be the same as your great old Gale motor. Good luck!

funny, before I put this post up, I could not find any inventory for this switch. I found another site claiming that a 1959 Gale was essentially a 1958 Johnson, so that is what I was searching for on Marineengine. Guess I'll pour over that site again.

Question 2 still remains, assuming I can find the switch, how does one go about attaching it into the bracket (I dont have the ability to spot weld). I'm thinking that if I try silver solder id likely destroy any insulator layer material, and I really don't like the idea of using epoxy in this type application.

Willyclay, Thanks.
I was searching for P/N0376867 (a single switch). Looking more carefully (under different model groups), I found P/N 0377363 (a double switch) in stock. Order placed. Fingers crossed.
