First of all let me thank everyone on this board who take the time to share their knowledge to help some of us who aren't quite sure.

I am rebuilding my carb with a sierra kit. The old packing for the low and high jets was a nice tight fit. The new red ones don't fit so snug on the jets. Will the new red packing swell when gas is introduced or do I need to call sierra.
There is also a little spring that is designed for the float needle. There wasn't one when I took it apart. Is this little spring necessary?
thanks so much.

Packing will seal when you tighten the packing nut down snug. That spring should be used with the new needle which has a rubber tip. Keeps it from sticking shut.

Most kits that I have bought come with 4 pieces of packing (two for each needle) and a plastic washer that goes in last. This is to prevent the packing nut from chewing up the packing.

I have a sierra kit. It did not come with any plastic washers. The locknuts screw down on the packing. I hope it works.
