1960 Century Resorter

Hello all,
Just purchased a Resorter. Hasn’t ran in a few years. Cleaned it up and got the engine to fire up. For some reason I can not figure out how to shift this thing into gear. It has a shifter on the column clearly labeled with F and R. The shifter acts like it will go into gear but nothing locks in like it engaged. The shifter will also pull towards the driver an inch but I can not shift into forward or reverse. Any suggestions or advise is appreciated!

Unhook the cable from the gearbox and see if the handle moves; while you're there make sure the lever on the gearbox moves like it's supposed to.
