So funny story about the motor and my travails of how I lost a summer!

So I get the motor and bring it home in June and check the spark with the pull starter and its flywheel - strong spark both plugs - so I put it aside and work on finishing the boat.

I get the boat 90 percent and move to the motor. The guy I bought it from gave me the starter and flywheel with starter teeth to turn into electric start so i mount them and make a wiring harness myself with solenoid, moving the kill switch to the dash...etc. Mount the motor and fill the garbage can up and it fire right up, SWEET!

Launch the boat at a small lake here in NH and set out......and I am only going 12 mph....hmmmph. Since I checked the spark - I think it has to be the carb - so I take the carb off and rebuild it - although I had my doubts since it was very clean.....

Put the carb back on and ......12 mph....arrrgh....been busy this summer....so I go back to the spark....now the motor is sparking on only one cylinder.....so I take the boat out of the water and bring back to my garage.

I check the points...which involves taking the flywheel off...and bear in mind - this motor looks perfect...reset them.....put the rope pull flywheel on for and easy check and sparks from both cylinders.....

Sweet.....take the rope pull flywheel off and put the electric one on, remount motor on boat so I can use electric start....set the garbage can up and fires right up!!

So...get ready to relaunch...and decide to check spark one last time.....spark one side.....So rather than trouble shoot....replace coils, condensers, plugs, wired both sides....for an easy check put rope flywheel on and lightning bolts on both cylinders....

Reassemble with electric flywheel......aaaaannnnndddddd spark one side.......

Flummoxxed....befuddled....angst ridden.....

Finally looking at the two flywheels I have - the rope pull one has magnets on either side on the interior and the electric start has magnets on one side - i have a 74 and the flywheel was from a 73.....the model flywheel needed was only made years 74-76....so the hunt is on....(Pull starting this beast is not happening).

In August i source a 75 electric in PA off eBay for $300 and get my in laws to pick it up....get the motor here in NH via a couple handoffs....put the electric flywheel on and Bingo.

More pics and the finish to my story this weekend.
