The '56 Johnson is a popular motor among collector/restorers, whatever the size. The 15, being a one-year motor does mean that there are fewer of them around, but they are not particularly rare. $150 is fair for a good running motor that is not worn out or abused. That leaves $0 for the Mac. That's fair too.

Um.....you are aware that the Johnson needs a pressure tank to run, aren't you? Do you have one? If not, that'll cost ya another $50-$100.

Was not aware of that!! So this motor has no fuel pump?? Is often that you can find decent used pressure tanks? I was actually guessing that the old thing had a tank on top of it. Hmmmmm. Now what will I do when I see this thing?

Went and looked at the motors. The Johnson was in great shap other than the expected paint fading. It's obvious that this motor was used lightly and only in freshwater lakes - as the gentleman said. It also came with what I believe is that original pressure tank (color matches motor), but there are no decals on it, so not sure. The problem: the motor is locked up from sitting for the past ten years.

The Elgin is in fair shape and was run about 6 years ago on a Jon Boat up and down a local river. It is free and not in too bad of shape, but the cowl has a small crack in it and is rather faded.

Did I buy them? I am a sucker and couldn't pass on them for $80. So I have just sprayed PB Blaster in the spark plug holes and will continue to hit it a couple of times a day to see if it frees up. I'll probably start a new thread on it later with the serial number on it and all to determine definitively what the year is and such (though I am sure it is a '56). The guy just thought it was a '58 because he thought he remembered the title saying (which was burnt in a house fire about 5 years ago). Honest mistake from a guy who really doesn't know a lot about them. So......let the work begin on getting the dinosaurs running.

That's about the right price for a stuck motor. You pays your money and you takes your chances. I paid $80 each for two Evinrudes. I'm using one after rebuilding it, and scrapped the other one. Win some, lose some.

Is the tank clean inside?

Looks to be clean. Unfortunately the feul line and fitting for the Johnson is not with it as they were obviously using the tank for the Elgin. Hopefully that won't be too tough to find though.
