1960 evenrude lark outboard

ok i have a few questions how do u kill the outboard with a key switch i tryed everything and can only kill 1 cyclinder, and i have a fuel problem i think i can only get my motor to runb on full choke i try to switch it to auto choke and it stalls,and i need to know i had my motor running with a water hose and seen very little water out the top port hole but hot water was rushing out a hole in the lower unit is this normal

There are two black wires coming from the magneto. One goes to one of the M terminals on the key switch, and the other goes to the center terminal on the vacuum cut-out switch. Another wire goes from that same center terminal, onward to the other M terminal of the key switch. When you turn the key to "off" the two M terminals are connected together, shorting out the magneto and killing the engine.

Most of the water goes out the underwater exhaust. A bit blows out the exhaust relief. How are you attaching a water hose anyway? That motor does not accept ordinary muffs. The main water intake is a screen on the leading edge of the exhaust outlet. There was a flushing attachment made for that screen, now rare as chicken fangs.

Sounds like your carburetor is gummed up. Clean it.

ty i will try to chean it and a bother problem is when i attacked the wires like u explained it wont start but when i unhook one it starts fine im new to boat motors so im sorry for being a noob

ok i checked my switch it only has 1 m termanal so guess i need to rerout my kill points to a push boton for now thanks for the info

Some replacement switches have a M terminal and a Ground terminal. Same thing, different markings. But you can't have anything else connected to that ground terminal.

ok i cheaned my carb and when i tryed to start it in a barrel of water it would spit and sudder but would not stay running answers? i have checked everything the carb ports are clean and pass fuel fine just wont stay running ?
