hi, im having issues getting my tach working properly on my evidrude 40hp. there is a setting on the back of the tach for pulses but i dont know how many pulses my motor is.
First off, what kind of tach is it?? Manufacture?? You have to have a stator and a rectifier or rectifier/regulator to make todays tachs work. I don't think your mtr has either.

the tach is a aquameter pb633. i dnt know what my motor has exactly but i do know it does not have a generator and it has a points no electronic ignition.
thanks for your quick reply! im not sure what kind of tach it is but it has diferent pulse settings on the back of it and rite now its set on number 2. it seems acurete at an idle but when u rev it up the tach shoots to 5 grand and stays there when the motor is obviosly not going 5000rpms. Ive heard that if ur pulse numbers double what it should be itl show the motor being double the actual rpms so if thats the case then maby if i set it to number 1 like u say itl work accurete?
well the grey wire looks to be hooked to the cutoff switch and i still havnt found the ground do to a big mess of wiring under the dash. I dont know how the tach could work this way but it seems accurete at an idle altho anything above idle is way off.
