I have a starflite 2 and I need the spark plug wires. Can I get them? Are they possibly the same as a 1970 85 hp? Thanks guys.

The spark plug wire assemblies are part number 580263 (takes 4). Get them from an Evinrude dealer. OR iboats has a kit to make them up. I always reccommend iboats for parts, however this kit requires a special tool to correctly crimp the screw terminals on the wires. You are better off getting the assemblies, already made.

No, they are not the same as a 1970. EDIT: I take that back. They are similar to the 1970, different lengths. Without side by side comparison, I can't say how the length is going to match up.

You can also solder the screw tips to the end of the wires. Done it many times. So has Joe Reeves. In my years of working on these mtrs, I didn't ever see this special tool.

I infact have done a side by side comparison. The 1970 is longer. So can I use it? I got this motor on my other boat. I know the motor is old and not worth a whole lot. I don't want to put a whole lot of money into it. But if she will run without a lot of money that would be awesome.

Use them but make sure they're routed properly not to interfere with anything.

If you're trying to thread it into the cap, is there still an end threaded into it where the wire was twisted off of it ??

No pulled those out. The threads on the 1970 are shorter and dont quite catch. Can I re crimp them on?
