This may seem dumb. I am putting gear oil in through the top hole. It is not taking alot. I drained it do i think i am doing it wrong. Bottom screw is in.

Tom - It is best to fill through the bottom drain plug. Be sure to have the top plug removed during this time. Once oil starts flowing out the top hole you know you have it full. You can then put the top plug in and then quickly remove the oil bottle from the bottom and install the plug.

Filling from the top causes air pockets.

I picked up an inexpensive pump form a sporting goods store to do just that. make sure that you use new gaskets.

Do not take out the Phillips head screw- that is for the shift cradle. The plugs are slotted head.

Hi Tom. Yes, you should fill from the bottom up using a small hand pump in order to eliminate any air pockets. You can get a quart of 80-90w hypoid outboard gear oil and a hand pump from any wal-mart. You'll also need to replace the white, nylon crush washers found beneath the DRAIN/VENT screws. Thank you...you guys helped a lot. will go to walmart and get pump weekend. motor almost ready.
