Before I even took the flywheel off I ordered an ignition tune-up kit. Then when I took the flywheel off I found that the coils were bad so I ordered them too. I did not order spark plug wires which I hope is not a mistake because I want to get this thing running asap! They seem to be okay. I did clean out the carb and it was bad but it's clean now but I am definitely going to buy a rebuild kit if I ever get it running. I do have one more question for you guys. When I opened the drain plug on the lower unit no oil came out. When I shift it into forward the propeller does turn so I hope it's not a big deal but what oil should I use in that? I have heard of 80w-90 and type C. Which one is right for this engine? Again, thanks for all the replies. I was not expecting to get so many replies. Usually on the other forums I've been to I've only gotten a few. Thanks for all the help!

dont run engine at all with no lower unit oil esp in gear,it would ruin the lu,,,,,,,,,dont use muffs, barrel is better,,,even with that,dont put in gear unless its in some body of water i e a lake ,pond ,river,bay,,,you may have to get a carb kit and rebuild just to get it going,,,a manual sold here on i boats would also be a good move,,,hope you get her goin

Well tonight I got all of my parts and put it back together and I had some very good news and some slightly bad news. First, the bad news. I noticed that the lower cylinder had no spark and when I took the spark plug out of the cap it kind of caught and I pulled out a little of the metal wiring but did get it back in. Now for the good news! The top cylinder has very good spark and seems to be working fine. After I got it back together I pulled it about 10 times and it started right up! I really didn't think it would start so quick because I only saw one cylinder sparking but maybe the other cylinder started working too? I only ran it for about 2 seconds but it did run and it sounded pretty good. How do you remove a spark plug cap? I will be running it in a barrel of water tomorrow so I can give more feedback on how it is actually running. Thank you!

I hope you didn't throw your old coils away. They actually looked pretty decent.

Sounds like your problem is in your boot connections

Well I looked at the flywheel again and everything looks fine it must be either the lower cylinder spark plug cap or wire. Is there anyway I can swap the spark plug caps from the top to bottom? and how do you take a spark plug cap off? Thanks!
