Re: 1960 Glastron

Thanks for posting my link jbcurt00, @friderday, I was given this boat by family members. It belonged to my great uncle who bought it new. It sat under a carport for many years as the pic link indicates. When family decided to offload the old boat, I had to consider all the repairs needed, then decided it would be a cool project. I had it gel coated to the original color, I believe originally it had a painted coating. I could be wrong, did they gel coat in 1960? That is the most expensive thing I've had done. Wish I had the space to learn how to do that sort of thing, I'm more of the mechanical end of it. I have removed, repolished all aluminum rails, replaced rotted rear decking, etc. Here are a few more pics ...photo 1 (2).jpgphoto 2 (2).jpgphoto 3 (2).jpg

Unless your uncle, or other family member painted it, it was gelcoat originally. And was offered in that blue/green color.

I found the REMOVEABLE bench for use as a dock side seat very interesting.

Haven't got a firm handle on how it was attached to the boat, if it was....

Re: 1960 Glastron

I have seen these same old adds. Very nice. Mine does not have the back seat, however I am contemplating making one next year. The original rear seat backs seemed to be too high. If I make one, it will be flush with the inner aluminum trim. I know, alittle low but it'll be a place to sit. I have a guy who will make a new vinyl or canvas top, but I would LOVE to have a hard top as shown in those old ads. Here's a few pics of the front bench. As far as gel-coat, it was pretty thin. I believe the colors offered were the teal blue, red and black depending on which of the four models you had. Did I mention I would give a body part for a fiberglass hard top like the one's in the ad?

Watch for a hardtop FireFlite to be for sale, I missed one 13mo ago........

Contact KevFin @ Boats in the Belfry, he may have access to a mold that would work or know someone that has one.....
