Bought a completely rebuilt 45hp 1960 Merc earlier this summer. After you guys helped me resolve a control cable question I got it in the water about 4 times. It's on a 14' V-hull 1965 fiberglass boat. Some issues I need help with: 1. It died several times while idling (I have not touched the needle valves). 2. Takes way too long to get up to speed and plane the boat. (previously had a '72 40hp 2-cyl. merc on it and it took off great-even with a skier). 3. once it's up to full speed, about 35mph it will seem to be running fine but after about a minute it bogs down real bad for a few seconds and then speeds up again. This will continue intermitently for the duration of the ride. I had someone else drive while this was happening and I went back and pumped the primer bulb and it made no difference. The motor rebuild included new bearings, seals, rebuilt carbs and lower unit. Any help would be awesome! Thanks, Frustrated in Wis.
