I purchased a Cherokee Runabout boat over the summer with a 40HP Johnson Electric Sea-Horse outboard motor. The previous owner did not have a title and claims that the year of the boat and engine is 1961. I have not been able to find any information on the year and model of the boat and I would like to restore it back to its original condition. My goal is to find this info so I am able to match the paint to its original color and maybe find some extra parts etc... Any Information on this would help me out tremendously!!!!

Without a title or ownership papers, its a yard planter.

Before doing anything get legal ownership

I agree make sure you have a title or it registered in your name before you spend and money or time on it

There is a section on this forum dedicated to Cherokee boats. Click the " Boating Forum" button and then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click on the "A-C Manufacturers" list. Then click on Cherokee. I completed a restore of a 1965 Cherokee and have posted a few screen shots of old brochures that may help you. These are great boats with a lot of style and yours looks to be complete and worth saving.

There are crude metal tags on the transom that should have your VIN stamped on them.

Depending on your state, they are giving you good advice regarding titling. I got mine done here in Missouri, only after calling in a favor from a local politician. If you have a will, there is a way. Do a little research on boat titling in your state and you will see what I mean.http://

Found out it is a 1500 Avalon. It was etched onto a few of the beams in the hull. Getting my title tomorrow!

SWEET! Your trailer is also correct vintage. The cleats, stern light and even the transom handles are all designed by a immigrant named Tom Faul, known as the "Aqua Bird" line of accessories. Permission to tag along.
