just picked up today, its a cherry 4hp Evinrude...waterpump still sqeaky and you could eat off of the ,motor? anyone know the exact year....adn i was wandering about tune up....said it ran fine but need choke until warm...he said he wasnt sure how to adjust the high and low on the carb so never did.....

Cool deal. I have the same motor in my collection. Even the same year.

You might have to open up the low speed needle to get it running without the choke. Then again, you might need to rebuild the carb too. If it sat for any length of time, the passages could be gummed up with old dried up two stroke oil.

GREAT MOTORS I have 3 of them including a folder model, pull the carb look at things while you have it apart may just need a little cleaning, if real bad buy a rebuild kit. check the coils, ignition wires, clean gap points, plugs, and don't forget to change the lower unit oil. good luck!

They are a great little engine 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 turns low speed 1 1/8 high speed. Use 25:1 premix as that motor uses bushings. I would check the fuel hoses to make sure they are ethanol compatible and that is about it.

alright, thanks alot guys....i was out at te boat dock last week and i was having fits with my little 3.5 eska, then the ol' guy at eh bait shack told me he had a little ole evinrude sitting in the garage, so yesterday i went to see him at the bait shack and ended up following him home ande buying it for 80$ with the old johnson tank....i couldnt get the money out of my wallet fast enough!!

Yea, i spent $370 rebuilding the one I have, for a guy and never got paid, so now it's mine. :D:D
