Can't say for sure about the 1960's, but Scott did make them as 4hp with full shift in 1949 through 1951. So it is entirely possible they ressurected them in the 1960's.

I have a 61 Scott 'Scotty' 3.6 and its a direct drive. My 1948 Scott Atwater 3.6 is basically the same as the 61. I've never seen a full shift model of any Scott below 5 horse. If it was made I'd like to see it.

Nice brochure F_R,
The scott McC Elgin I'm looking for is a 60's vintage 3.5...were thinking its a rare litle thing maybe cobbled together by the factory in small numbers, a collector buddy of mine found it with a couple boats stacked together he picked up someplace on his trading route and it was sandwiched between the boats, looks like this but with full shifting...maybe one of a kind?

That little single cylinder Scott-Atwater first appeared in 1946, and was made forever. In fact, I have a '46. As I mentioned, it was made with a full gearshift for at least those 3 years. In fact, S/A was the first motors to have full gearshifts.

I don't find it strange that they may have made shift models in the 1960's. I can't say concerning the rarity though. McC also came out with a 4hp in the 1960's using their chainsaw powerhead, a different animal.

Here's the leading authority---- http://www.scottatwaterinfo.com/

EDIT: Some research indicates that the Sears / McC single cylinder motor was produced as 3.6hp from 1960 thru '63. In 1964, it was demoted to 3.5hp, the only year I've found for 3.5hp. Model number was 574.60030. So now all you have to do is find a parts book for a 574.60030 and see if it had a shift.

I'm amazed that they made a single cylinder with shift. I would have thought it was a forerunner of the two cylinder 5 (1951 -52) I have but it's not. Really an amazing motor for a single. Never seen or heard of one before.

mr crabs scott Mc elgin looks a lot like my 61 Scott Scotty 3.6. The decals say Scott on the side of the tank and Scotty on the front.
