I havechecked compression. 75psi in both holes. yes it is a little low but equal. Carb has been overhauled. When reassembled, both idle screw and high speed screw were set to 3/4 and 1 1/2 turns out. I have good spark. spark will jump aprox 1/4 inch on spark testor. I pulled out plugs,j4js,and they are dry. No sign of gas. What would be a good way of checking crankcase to see if there is a vacumn leak?

Spray a bit of pre-mixed fuel directly into carb, or into plug holes and it will fire up briefly if it's a fuel delivery problem. Also, check that plug wires are going to appropriate cylinder..

Do you have the correct twin line fuel tank and is the tank correctly sealed?

Do you pump the tank button to fuel up the carb before you try to start it?

Has it ever started and run properly for you?

Just for the sake of knowing, the statement you made about the carb needles; if that was respectively in your sentence, that is incorrect. Should be the other way around and that could have you messed up!

I did all the things you did to my 63 evinrude 5.5 and I started trouble shooting the fuel system and unplugged the hose from the fuel filter and started pullin the motor over slow.. and the fuel pump was squirting fuel.. plugged the hose back to the fuel filter and unplugged from the carb and did it again and no fuel came out.. filter was so clogged up wasnt allowing any fuel... bypassed it with an inline fuel filter and started on the 2nd pull.... check these things before you look for a vacuum leak
