1961 15hp sea king

Just looking for some knowledge here. Just came across this motor and it has adjustable fins on the prop.Was this an experiment gone bad or does the prop work efficiently? Never seen one before just curious.

That is an aftermarket "variable pitch" prop somebody stuck on there.
The original was just an ordinary prop.

I don't know, I never spent my money on one. I did hear stories about they break easy.

They work; in that you can change the pitch but not as effective as a purpose designed prop.Newer Present day variable props are a little more effective.

I've actually sold a motor with one, one time. There's not a whole lot that holds those blades on, that I have seen. Just watch for any metal objects that come flying out of the water.:D

Back in the early sixties you would see these advertized in Popular Mechanics magazine.
