hello,

i am buying a boat that has a 1961 75 hp johnson that apparently "starts right up" but will not shift gears. it has new control and cable. is this hard to fix and is it worth it?

thank you,
doris
If it is a manual shift it is fairly simple to
adjust and repair.Professional repairs could be
costly if major repairs are required.
These old motors are generally considered pretty
reliable but ignition parts are hard to find and
expensive. The electric shift Can be very problematic. The early V4s are horrible gas hogs.
hello again,
thank you for your help. my understanding is that it is a manual shift. What does it entail to fix it. do i have to remove the entire lower unit? please advise.

doris
