I replaced gears in case many years ago and never
could seem to get things to seal up again. In a short run on the lake I get a milk shake in gear case. And some oil is leaking out. The shaft going through the impeller has .010 grooves. Can I move the seal up or down to miss the groove?
Or can I put a speedy sleeve on that lower part of shaft? I would replace the shaft, but I am to cheap and thats to old of an engine. The driveshafts part is #378273 if any one has one. This is a starflight model 50525. Any other sugestions on sealing this unit up? There is fishing to to be done!

The speedy sleeve should work for ya. I'd try that rather then move the seal.

c/6
Hooty

Peter, where on the shaft are these grooves?Ive seen spiral grooves where the shaft rides in the bushing/bearing area, and Ive seen grooves where the lip of the seal sits. While this is not right, this is not always a problem.
You said the reseal didn't last long,so I have to ask if you used sealer on the outside surface of the seals (metal to metal?
DHP

DHP,
The groves are from the seal lip. Today I bought a new seal from original part number,it is twice as thick. The one that was in there seemed to be the problem. They were both cr seals but a big difference in quality. If this doesn't work I'll go for the speedy sleeve. Hooty keep the cuervo a flowin' and have a pop for us all.
Thanks again!
