Andrew, it looks like you have plenty of "snap". Flip that bad boy over and put a pad on it.

Andrew-Nice work! I just did a complete interior refurbish on my 93 17' center console...I used epoxy resin on everything, all in all I used about 20 gallons total...I was wondering what brand resin you are using and where you get it? On my project (which took exactly 6 months working on it after work and on weekends) I used Epoxy resin and all of my cloth (biax1708 and 2oz CSM) from fiberglasssite.com.....anyways, nice job again!

I got mine from u.s. Composites, about the best prices I could find. A word of caution, though- be careful with csm and epoxy, many csms use a binder that doesn't dissolve in epoxy and can make wet out tough, and weaken the resulting laminate. There is some debate about this with the biaxial cloth as well, but some you find Is specifically listed as being usable with epoxy. Csm, in general, is used with poly resins.

What kind of powerplant will the owner be using?

Well... This project is more or less wrapped up for the time being.

The transom, stringers, and floor are done. I drilled the holes for the transom drain plugs, and sealed them with epoxy. I won't be installing the plugs until I am done sanding and fairing the transom, But I am going to be putting her away for a little while, with a tarp, and wanted to have a way for water to get out just in case.

I also popped the cap back on-

I don't know HOW I worked before having that gantry- It makes life so much easier- especially when working alone!

The cap isn't permanently installed yet- There is still work to do underneath it. But, I wanted to test fit it to make sure that I got the curve and angle of the transom right. I was a little nervous about that- Remember that a lot of the transom was missing when I started- And I had to get the curve and angle from measurements taken from another boat.

I must have done something right-

It FITS. That is always a relief :)

The curve is almost dead on, and the angle is just right... I don't need to get out the grinder :)

Since I was working on my Lake N Sea today, and had the epoxy out anyway, I did some little things on the g-3 as well...

The splashwell is mangled pretty badly around the back, I think that at one time someone attached it with resin, and when it was removed it was broken. It needed to be reinforced, which I've had to do in 'stages' so one repair could support the next.

Once this cures, I'll use some filler on the other side, sand it all down, and once painted, you shouldn't be able to tell that it was ever damaged... In theory :)

I popped the cap back off this week, since we were supposed to have some warmer temps.... Man, having a lift like this makes life SO easy-

normal_Hoist.jpg

I took off the windshield and grab rails, so the cap would be ready to sand. The grab rails had been installed by some previous owner with galvinized toggle bolts, not exactly the preferred method! I had been using the grab rails as lifting points, in their absence I am using a couple of eye bolts temporarily installed in the mounting holes.

I hit the inside of the hull with my pressure washer. I've got a tip on it that produces a kind of 'rotary' pattern, that REALLY digs in to old paint. It took a lot of the old Zolatone off the inside of the hull, all of it in some places. The paint that did remain was well attached to the underlying glass.

When I pressure washed, I found an area in the floor that the fiberglass had been worn through- It looks like it was where the gas tanks had been stored, just forward of where I had replaced the floor. The plywood floor was fine there, just a little discolored, So I ground what was left of the glass off, and replaced it with another layer.

Then, I gave it all a good coat of primer-

It's amazing how much more finished things start to look when they are all painted one color, and the repairs are blended in.

OK, tell the truth, that is NOT the same boat....Right????
Wow it is amazing what a little paint will do for the looks of a restoration.
Nice Job, Andrew!!!

Yeah, It's amazing what a little paint will do :)

It's looking even better now, I got the second coat of gloss white on the interior this morning. Of course, According to the unwritten laws of painting, the second I opened the can of paint, Mosquitos appeared. Come on, It's DECEMBER. I guess this warm spell we've been having confused them.

It turned out pretty nice, I think. I had the supplies on hand to do the white, so hopefully the boats owner is OK with that color... If not, It can always be repainted! I was in a bit of a rush so I wasn't able to confirm the color choice ahead of time- It's just SO much easier to paint it with the deck off, especially with a boat as small as this one.

I'm going to be packing up the projects this weekend, and heading out 'to sea' for a few weeks... I need to go drive a big boat for a while before I forget what it's like :)

The white looks great on the interior! Good luck convincing the owner it was 'his' idea to go w/ bright white:D

Have safe seas & speedy return! Maybe I'll have made some headway on mine by then:facepalm:. I may have my iboats resto card revoked if I don't get on it soon.

I'm not sure- But I don't think that there will be. By the time you put the deck back on and the seats in, You really can't see much of the hull's interior, unlike my Citation. It probably isn't really worth the effort. This finish is easy to maintain, and can be quickly recoated if ever needed down the line. If it were mine, I'd leave it as is.

Yeah, I never thought about that. Everything gets covered up in that G-3. Well she looks good just like she is. Have fun on the "Big Boat" I'm sure your "Captaining" skills will come back to you pretty quick once you hit the deck.;)
