Re: 1961 Horizon with a 1967 Mercury 650

Hello,
I read this thread with great interest because I am trying unsuccessfully to find information about the "Flush Port" on the bottom of my 1972 Mercury 1150.
Several posts here have stated to NOT use the "flush Port" as the water does not go into the impeller.
I completely rebuilt the water pump and I can assure anyone that my "Flush Port" goes DIRECTLY into the water pump and impeller.
The problem is ALL of the devices I have found that are made for "Flush Ports" are WAY too big (3/4" to 1") to screw into mine.
My port appears to be approx. 1/2" to 5/8" in diameter.
I DO have the original port because I was able to find and purchase a new screw-in plug from Boats.net and it screwed right in.

My question is, does anyone know:
1. Mercs recommended maintenance using this port?
2. How to use this port?
3. Any where I can purchase a fitting made to use this port?
I would like to use "Salt-Away" but the device sold at "WestMarine" was wrongly stated in this thread to work with "ear-muffs". The Salt-Away device at WestMarine states it connects directly to the "Flush Port" which of course will NOT fit my motor. Note: I already purchased the standard flush fitting that fits "ALL OUTBOARDS WITH A FLUSH PORT" and guess what? It doesn't fit!!!

Does ANYONE have this same flush port, give me any information, know how to use the port or know where I can find info?

Thanks in advance,

sportyinc.

P.S. If I am in the wrong thread, please redirect this newbie. thanks
