1961 johnson sea 75HP horse problems

Hello all
I just got a 1961 johnson sea horse 75 HP and I am completely stupid to this motor. When I got it the fuel lines were all completely removed. I got new lines but I have only a slight idea where they go. Also it has no spark. I tested the coil and it is bad. I have looked here for a replacement but I can not find one. My father used to have a johnson 75 on his boat like 25 years ago and he doesnt remember having to mix oil but everything I read says that it is a 2 stroke. If anyone has any info and pics of this motor that would be worth gold.

Also all of the wires for this thing were dry rotted and had no insulation. I am going to be replacing the wires but can anyone tell me what wires do what So that I might be able to get this thing running. I have 2 black wires. A white wire, and a brown wire.

That is a 2 stroke, mix oil and gas.
It might be wise for you to invest in an OEM manual if you can find one, worth it's weight in gold to help ansewer all the questions about repairs.
I think the only place you will find wiring diagrams is in the manual.

thank you for the responces. I am completely confused now lol. I am going to have to check the motor out and get the serial number. The person i got it from said that it was a 1961 but the coil and some other parts are completly different. The coil on mine is in the distributor under the cap. The distribitor is not facing right side up it is facing upside down with the wires comming from the bottom as wll as the cap. I appoligize for missleading everyone and appreaciate the replys. I will post back when i have the correct info.

Ok so got side tracked from the boat for a little while but I checked the serial on the motor and it is a 1961 but the parts on the list yall showed me are different then what I have. I am going to use the coil out of an old car and just run a wire to where the old coil was mounted inside the distributor. This should work just fine. I am attatching a photo of the serial and model number. Any help would be great. If anyone can tell me where to get a cheap coil or any links to service manuals and such.

The confusion arises because there were two different 75hp motors in 1961. V4S-13 and V4A-13. The V4A has a 20 amp alternator and automotive ignition. Your V4S has a mangeto, and no battery charging unless it has the optional DC generator kit installed.

That's why they have model numbers.

Thank you That is all cleared up now. So do you have any idea where i can find parts for this model? Everywhere I look does not have parts listed for this model. I tried to remove the plug wires from the cap and they tore out. There is a crimped part still in the cap does this come out and I can re crimp new wires in and plug it back? Also where can I find a coil for this motor? Thank you again for any advice.

You can get a new coil from any Evinrude dealer, if you mortgage the farm. Part number 580243, $195.96. I suggest you post a free want ad on the Webvertize pages at the antique outboard club's website www.aomci.org Somebody there may have a good used one.

The plug wires screw into the cap. You can get them already made up from a dealer too. It takes a special tool to properly crimp them if you buy the parts separately. OR, include them in your want ad at aomci.org
