Got the carb kit in with a new float. Re-synced the engine. Very hard to start and would not hardly idle. Idles very roughly when did start and won't stay running. Checked the plugs after ..very black and sooty. I'm starting to suspect the gas mix. I used 2 stroke chain saw oil last batch mixed 25:1 Gonna put in a fresh batch mixed 50:1 with proper marine engine oil. Any ideas? Thanks.

Adjust the idle mixture knobs toward lean (clockwise) till it smooths out. It will sneeze when you get it too lean. Then back it off till it recovers. Double check your belt timing.

EDIT: Oh yeah, make sure that stupid automatic choke is open. Flip the manual lever to "choke off" position. Those things didn't work when they were new and aren't about to now either.

Thanks again F R. BTW The rebuild kit did not come with the packing for the low speed needles. I left the old packing alone. Would that be a factor?

Thanks again F R. That worked great! With the new gas mix at 50:1 with good oil she started on the 3rd crank and purred like a kitten after I adjusted it like you said. Now just got to get the lights going. :D
