Got the manual. Selog's. Did the impeller. I'm trying to get this thing back in by myself. So, needless to say it's a little awkward. I get the shaft up and in and then it's stops about 1/4 of an inch from all the way in. I can see the shift rod and the connector through the access. It's not hitting the connector. What could be hanging it up? Do I need to rotate the shaft slightly? The manual says to shift it into forward or reverse to aid. But, gives no instruction on how to shift with lower unit off. Thanks. I look forward to your responses!

you need to line up the water tube. that's whats keeping you from going up.

If you are within a quarter inch, you are almost all the way up. Did you oil the water tube seals? Did you put some grease on the drive shaft splines? Did you put Too Much grease on the spines? Is the o-ring on the splines' groove?

So, the lower unit is all the way in, but your shift rod doesnt reach?

To put it in gear you need to pull up on the shift rod, this should give you enough to connect the shift rod.

Thanks for all your responses. Good point about the grease on the splines F R...I did glob it up pretty good before putting it in and there was old grease up there. Did not completely grease every o-ring. Tough to get to with my fingers. Gotta use the pinkie..... Like I said it's got a 1/4 inch to go and I'm there. I'm gonna give it another go this weekend. I make sure to lube those o-rings some more. Use marine grease, 3 and 1, W-d 40?

when i do a lower unit install i like to wrap a rope or tie down strap around the two halfs so i can line things up. and i can walk away for a few minutes and let my arms rest:)

I got the boat in the water this weekend. It started right away and purred like a kitten. I checked to see if any condensation was coming out the exhaust port....it was. So the pump was working. Checked to see if would go in gear... it did....forward and reverse. So, i thought I would take it for a short spin. I back out about 20 yards from the launch went to put it in forward and it died on me. When I tried to start her up. It wouldn't turn over at all. Dead in the water. Rowed back to the dock and got her out. Now I'm noticing that I can't put it in forward. The shifter moves to reverse and neutral ...that's it. The motor ran for about 5 minutes. Any ideas? Thanks...

yes i did.....choke was on. duh huh.... Also, did not have the throttle pulled back. So it was locked out. another duh huh!......In the meantime found out she's only running on 1 and 3. No spark on 2 and 4. So, now I'm waiting for the tune up kit and the wires and rotor. Hopefully she'll run then...thanks for the interest.
