I have it running but it has a lot of grayish milky stuff running out of the drain holes at the bottom of where the lower unit go together is it not burning all the fuel?

Going to need pictures but that sounds like oil-water emulsion which is not good.

Quick check... do a lower end oil change and see what that oil looks like.

Sounds normal especially if you are running 24-1 like it needs. The motors rarely get warm enough in a tank to complete the burning process so that goo is just a by product absolutely normal. If the lower unit lube is clear of water good to go. Take it out on the lake and run it get her nice and warm and you won't see that.

That motor runs 24-1. they did not change to 50-1 until after 63/64. The emulsion is still normal with a 50-1 mixture.

Take it on the lake A lot of people have the same question on this forum. Always the same answer normal run it till it gets warm on the lake. Fuel pump problems will also show up on the lake usually not in the barrel.

If it's running, it may be running cold (above note). If it's not firing, check the spark (spark tester). It may be that you haven't got the air/fuel mix quite right, and need to dial it in.

Thanks. The surface temp at the top of the head should be about 130-140F -- warm to touch, but not hot enough to burn after touching for a few seconds. (Running cold can give poor combustion.) It sound like it's getting up to temp, offhand. On the other hand, temp at the top of the head shouldn't exceed 160.

Additionally, you may be running rich due to a rich air/fuel mix. The top (l.s.) needle should be about one turn open, maybe a little more. The bottom needle (h.s.) should be about 3/4 open. Lean is clockwise, and the object is to get it running well at a lean setting (best combustion).

Then it was normal Any time you run it in a tub you will get that. I would check the thermostat though just to make sure it's working good not crusted up or stuck open like racer said and change your fuel mix to 24-1
