I am getting ready to go back together with my QD-22 and I notice that the parts catalog page 10 shows an item number 8, called a cover plate p/n 305323. My motor never had this installed and it looks like it would block off the exhaust channel. Can't tell from the picture real well but maybe there is still an avenue for the exhaust gases to enter the mid-section with this plate installed.

Is this plate required and what does it do?

Since my motor ran really well ( except for overheating ) before I took it apart, I just don't know about this plate.

Please help as I would like to start putting things back together.

Thanks in advance

That picture is kind of misleading. That plate is down inside the exhaust housing. It is sort of a muffler, in it's function. It does not block the exhaust, but it does make the portion of the exhaust that blows out the relief port take a different route. However, most of the exhaust goes out underwater.

Take another look, it may be in there.
