I'm looking for an outboard for a 14' boat I just bought. A local marine store has 1961 Sea King 35 HP for $125 (no tank or control box)and claims it runs OK. Am I asking for trouble due to age, mantainance, parts availability, etc..They also have a somewhat newer Johnson 20 HP with tank and control box for $300, but I'd like the larger 35 HP. Sorry for the noobie question, I'm an I/O boat man and new to outboards.

Thanks
John

Check the model number on the 35, John. If it begins with GG it was made by Gale, a division of OMC, it is a great engine and JohnnyRude parts, tanks and controllers will work on it. If it begins with a W, or anything but GG, pass.

Good luck. :)

Thanks JB, I went to buy it, but they could'nt get it to run. Bad compression in one cylinder and no spark. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

John
